URGENT COVID 19 UPDATE PARENTS AND CARERS PLEASE READ

EHS at Home

I hope you and your families are well.

Yesterday Dominic Raab, speaking on behalf of the Prime Minister, reiterated the Government’s position on the current lock down imposed on 23rd March. In his address, Mr Raab said that although they would offer an update on Thursday 16th April, the Government don’t expect to make any changes to the measures currently in place at that point”.

Egerton High School will do its best to comply with aforementioned measures, namely  “The single most important action we can all take … is to stay at home … Stopping all gatherings of more than two people … Every citizen must comply”.

As we are now entering a more prolonged phase, we are concerned that your child’s personal, social and academic development can be adversely affected, and as a result, we have created a new package for our students, called “EHS at Home”. Over the next few days, you will receive a new suite of materials, including online resources,  for your child to work through: these will be hand delivered to your home by a member of staff. The materials will cover the whole curriculum for the next 4 weeks, and should be worked through steadily during this time. During week beginning 4.5.20, you will then receive a set of assessments for your child to undertake the following week; once complete, staff will then collect these along with the curriculum materials for marking. We are then planning a whole school cross-curriculum project for the final week of this half term: I will forward further details closer to the time. You will continue to receive the usual attendance and well being calls, and we will continue to support you in any way we can.

Although the EHS building will remain open from today, we have a number  staff who are self-isolating. Please note that we do not have PPE at the moment. In order to protect the very few staff we still have in the building, we are observing strict social distancing protocols as follows: there will be no more than 2 people in any room; each person will be 2 metres apart at all times; each child will be admitted to the building one at a time, and will be required to adopt strict hand washing processes; these processes will be repeated throughout the day. We understand that there are a number of issues regarding transport, as PAs and drivers are self-isolating. It is difficult to see how the social distancing procedures can be achieved in your child’s taxi: we are, however, negotiating the use of larger taxis for students, so that they do not become infected with the virus on their journey to and from school.

We will update you as soon as possible. Thank you for your support.
